Aquatro Gallery’s Grand Opening Kicks Off Gloucester’s Summer Gallery Season
Gloucester MA — Located on Madfish Wharf in the heart of Gloucester’s newly-designated Rocky Neck Cultural District, Aquatro Gallery is delighted to kick off Gloucester’s summer gallery season with a Grand Opening event on Friday, May 25th, 2012 from 6:00 – 9 p.m. Surrounded by more than a dozen galleries and artisan-oriented shops and boutiques, Aquatro Gallery will feature wearable textiles from Guatopo, including beautifully hand-painted silk scarves, men’s ties and bandanas, as well as selections from their Folkloric Collection. In addition, Aquatro Gallery will also have a fashion-forward, boutique-style jewelry line by Amore by Grace Edwards that is featured in leading stores throughout the country.
In bringing these lines together in one gallery/boutique, Aquatro partners, Adriana “Gigi” Mederos and Grace Edwards focus attention on consumer buying trends towards hand-produced and limited-edition items that embrace artisan culture and creative economies. By situating themselves squarely in the new cultural district of Rocky Neck, Mederos and Edwards continue the rich tradition of artists coming to Cape Ann in past summers and serve to expand and broaden the tourism experience in areas of the country, like Gloucester, that often have been associated with other industries in the past.
Aquatro Gallery is a trendsetter in the Rocky Neck Art Colony and on Madfish Wharf with their bright, turquoise floors, white walls and relaxed shopping experience, Mederos and Edwards have skillfully curated a distinct collection of fine art pieces, home furnishings, wearable art, and stationary items.
Visit the Aquatro Gallery website at aquatrogallery.com for their hours throughout the summer and fall and to stay in touch and learn about all of the upcoming events at Aquatro and the Rocky Neck Art Colony.
About Adriana “Gigi” Mederos
Gigi Mederos is thrilled to bring back her fine art pieces for a second season on the ‘Neck and to introduce Guatopo, the surface and textile designs she and Stevie Black have been creating. Over the last seven years, Mederos’ body of work has become quite expansive and as an outgrowth of Adriana Mederos Studio, she and her partner, Stevie Black, have developed entirely new and authentic designs for surfaces and textiles by their company, Guatopo. This summer season, they will debut hand-painted textiles, pillows and stationary items at Aquatro Gallery and will be looking to expand their reach into the holiday season.
About Grace Edwards
Grace Edwards launched her highly successful jewelry line under the brand name, Amore by Grace Edwards, in 2008. Amore is featured in many boutiques and trendy stores across the U.S. Grace is also the Creative Director at Mia Luxe, a fashion fundraising company that uses jewelry as a platform for raising money for underfunded children’s educational-, arts-, and sports-related programs across the country.
About Rocky Neck
Home to arguably the oldest continuous art colony in the Americas, Rocky Neck in Gloucester, MA was recently designated as one of Massachusetts’ first “cultural districts” along with Rockport, MA’s downtown area. The Cultural District Initiative came out of an economic stimulus bill passed by the state’s legislature in 2010. A compact, walkable area with a concentration of artist’s studios and galleries, as well as restaurants and other venues, Rocky Neck continues to merge the best of the old and the new.
